Roadwork, detour

MnDOT will improve four miles of Business Hwy 371 between 70th Ave. in Barrows and Joseph St. in Brainerd, Crow Wing County.

Aug. 8 until early September

Business Hwy 371 closed from south of Greenwood St. to Buffalo Hills Ln./Industrial Park Rd. in Brainerd

• Detour: Uses Hwy 371 to Baxter, Hwy 210/Washington St. back to Business Hwy 371/S Sixth St.
  • Through traffic must use detour
• Local access:
  • Intersection at Industrial Park Rd./Buffalo Hills Ln. is a temporary all-way stop until fall
  • Access open to those who live, work or visit those along the work zone; however, expect changes and gravel surfaces
    • West access to Greenwood St. at Business Hwy 371 will be closed to realign the intersection. Use Buffalo Hills Ln.
    • West access to Teen Challenge, enter from north at all-way stop

Summary of work

• Resurface road (mill and overlay) between 70th Ave. and Greenwood St. (2.5 miles)
• Reconstruct road between Greenwood St. and Joseph St. (1.5 miles)
  • Replace city storm sewer and curb/gutters
• Improve pedestrian and motorist access
  • Install center left-turn lanes at the intersections of:
    • 70th Ave.
    • St. Mathias Rd./Co. Rd. 21
    • Greenwood St.
  • Upgrade the signal system at Buffalo Hills Ln. and Industrial Park Rd.
  • Add pedestrian sidewalks and approaches between Industrial Park Rd. and Joseph St.

Brainerd

• COMPLETE: Business Hwy 371 will close first between Joseph St. and Buffalo Hills Ln./Industrial Park Rd in Brainerd. Detour uses Willow St., 13th Ave. and Industrial Park Rd. Access will be maintained to area residents, businesses and healthcare clinics. This segment will be open in time for Crow Wing County Fair.
• Late July to September: Business Hwy 371 will close from Buffalo Hills Ln./Industrial Park Rd. to just south of Greenwood St. Detour uses Hwy 371 to Baxter, Hwy 210/Washington St. back to Business Hwy 371/S Sixth St.

Brainerd to Barrows

• September: Motorists to encounter periodic stops with alternate one-way traffic on Business Hwy 371 from Greenwood St. to 70th Ave.
  • Note: Dates of when this work will occur after July yet to be determined.
• Full duration of this project: Hwy 371 intersection at Buffalo Hills Ln. and Industrial Park Rd. to be an all-way stop for the full duration of this project. Motorists to encounter periodic lane closures, shoulder closures and crews working along the entire project.
