Highway 8 Corridor Study

Wyoming, Chisago City

About this study

The Hwy 8 Corridor Study began in 2008 and is now complete. The study considered a range of roadway alternatives to address Hwy 8 capacity, access and safety issues between Greenway Avenue North and Karmel Avenue in the cities of Wyoming and Chisago. Study participants include Chisago and Washington County and the cities of Wyoming and Chisago City.

The study identifies and proposes a future configuration for Hwy 8 that includes a four-lane, divided roadway concept with a grassy median that extends for a distance of approximately seven miles between Greenway Avenue North and Karmel Avenue.

The outcome of this study recommends a primary alternative (Alternative 5) which is expected to be endorsed by the corridor cities and adopted into their respective comprehensive plans for development along the corridor.

No specific construction projects are currently identified or funded within the study limits. It is anticipated that once funding is identified for a project that further environmental review will need to be conducted.
