Work nears completion on I-94 between Maple Grove, Rogers
New Dayton Parkway Interchange adds mobility, access
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is completing the final improvements and upgrades to the nine-mile stretch of Interstate 94 between Maple Grove and Rogers. The city of Dayton is opening a new diverging diamond interchange in the same project area.
The final ramps on the Dayton Parkway Interchange open Saturday, Nov 6; and the fourth and final eastbound lane of I-94 will be complete by Friday, Nov 12, weather permitting. Motorists may encounter occasional lane and ramp closures as crews wrap up work in the weeks ahead.
“This project highlights a great partnership between the city of Dayton, the I-94 West Corridor Coalition and MnDOT, and shows what can be done working together,” said MnDOT Commissioner Margaret Anderson Kelliher. “We are grateful for the communities’ patience during construction and look forward to how these improvements, along with the Dayton Parkway Interchange, will improve safety and benefit the region.”
Work on I-94 included:
- Reconstructing nine miles of the freeway
- Resurfacing ramps
- Adding a lane in both a lane in both directions of I-94 between Highway 610 in Maple Grove and Highway 101 in Rogers, for a total of four lanes each way
- Constructing a roundabout at Brockton Lane and Territorial Road in Hassan Township
- Building four new noise walls
- Adding ten new spaces and real-time parking availability signs at Elm Creek Rest Area
Motorists will experience a smoother road surface, improved safety, better commercial access for freight and business, and less vehicle congestion with these improvements.
The project started in April 2020. C.S. McCrossan and Michael Baker International served as the contractors in a joint partnership.
Led by the city of Dayton, work also is complete on a new diverging diamond interchange southeast of Brockton Lane in Dayton. The Dayton Parkway Interchange addresses a six-mile I-94 interchange gap between Maple Grove and Rogers. The new interchange eases capacity issues, improves freight travel increases the corridor’s overall safety and mobility, and increases access to surrounding communities.
The new lanes along I-94 between St. Michael and Albertville are expected to open in late November. Crews will finish adding new lanes on I-94 between Monticello and Clearwater in 2022.
