Rainy weather delays start of lane restrictions, ramp closures on
I-94 & I-35E project in St. Paul

ROSEVILLE, Minn. Blustery spring weather has delayed the start of lane and ramp closures that were set to begin this evening on the I-94 & I-35E project in St. Paul.

The following ramps and lane closures had been scheduled to begin tonight but have been postponed until tomorrow evening, Thursday, April 21. The closures are expected to stay in place through early June.

  • Westbound I-94 to Marion Street
  • Southbound I-35E to westbound I-94
  • University Avenue to westbound I-94/southbound I-35E
  • Westbound I-94 to 12th Street

Westbound I-94 also will be reduced to two lanes between I-35E and Western Avenue tomorrow evening until early June.

The first stage of this year’s construction will focus on repairs and resurfacing on I-94 between Marion St. and I-35E along with work on I-35E between I-94 and University Ave. from mid-April through mid-summer. The final stage of the project will be on I-94 between I-35E and Mounds Blvd. from mid-summer through the fall of 2022.

The two-year project to repair and resurface I-94 between Western Ave. and Mounds Blvd. and I-35E between I-94 and University Ave. in St. Paul began in the summer of 2021. Project work also includes resurfacing ramps and frontage roads along I-94, repairing drainage and upgrading storm sewers and bridge rehabilitation work as well as repairing sidewalks and upgrading pedestrian sidewalks and approaches to Americans with Disability Act (ADA) standards.

The project is expected to be completed in the fall 2022.
