I-494 near Mendota Heights closing May 6-9
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists traveling on Interstate 494 in Mendota Heights, Eagan and Richfield should plan for detours this weekend as both directions of I-494 close beginning at 9 p.m. Friday May 6.
Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, May 6 eastbound I-494 will close between Highway 5 in Bloomington and I-35E in Mendota Heights. Traffic will be detoured around the closure via southbound Highway 77/Cedar Avenue and northbound I-35E.
Also beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, May 6, westbound I-494 will close between I-35E and Pilot Knob Road. Motorists should follow the signed detour using southbound I-35E and northbound Highway 77 to access westbound I-494.
All lanes and ramps on I-494 are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, May 9.
This closure is part of a larger resurfacing and bridge deck preservation project on Highway 55 between Bloomington Road in Minneapolis and Highway 52 in Inver Grove Heights.
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather permitting and subject to change. MnDOT will maintain access to all businesses and residences throughout the project however, you may have to use a different route.
When possible, motorists should avoid cutting through neighborhoods and help keep the community safe by using posted detour routes.
Construction is expected to be complete by October 2022.
