Westbound I-94 closed this weekend in St. Paul
Closure begins Friday evening, May 6
ROSEVILLE, Minn. –The Minnesota Department of Transportation will close westbound Interstate 94 near downtown St. Paul this weekend for concrete pavement repair. The westbound interstate will fully close and be detoured between Interstate 35E and Marion Street beginning at 9 p.m. tonight, May 6. During the weekend closure, construction crews will pour new concrete pavement on the westbound roadway between 12th Street and John Ireland Blvd.
During the closure, motorists will detour north on I-35E, west on Hwy 36 and then south on Hwy 280 to reach westbound I-94.
The westbound interstate will remain closed until 5 a.m. on Monday, May 9.
REMINDER: Eastbound and westbound I-94 are restricted to two lanes between the eastern junction of I-35E/I-94 and Marion Street until early summer. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes to avoid congestion and delays. As work continues this year, motorists will encounter additional lane and ramp closures in this area.
Information about upcoming traffic impacts will be posted on the website and sent out in email updates as details become available. All traffic impacts are tentative and weather dependent.
The two-year project to repair and resurface I-94 between Western Ave. and Mounds Blvd. and I-35E between I-94 and University Ave. in St. Paul began in the summer of 2021. Project work also includes resurfacing ramps and frontage roads along I-94, repairing drainage and upgrading storm sewers and bridge rehabilitation work as well as repairing sidewalks and upgrading pedestrian sidewalks and approaches to Americans with Disability Act (ADA) standards.
The project is expected to be completed in the fall 2022.
