Hwy 57 access from Hwy 52 closed beginning May 24, motorists to use Co. Rd. 50 detour

ZUMBROTA, Minn. — Southbound Hwy 52 traffic traveling to westbound Hwy 57 at Hader will be closed and detoured beginning Tuesday, May 24, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The closure will begin at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24. Construction crews are preparing grading operations in this area ahead of schedule that are part of construction of the new interchange at Hader. This closure will be in place until late October.

All traffic will utilize the Goodhue County Road 50 detour, which can be found on the MnDOT project website. Motorists on southbound Hwy 52 will exit at Goodhue County 50 Blvd. to connect to Highway 57 westbound.

The work is part of the Hwy 52 Zumbrota to Cannon Falls construction project, which is reconstructing the southbound lanes of Hwy 52 between Cannon Falls and Zumbrota, building an interchange at Hwy 57 and Goodhue County Road 8, replacing four bridges, implementing safety measures such as access closures and reduced conflict intersections and installing permanent snow fence. Construction is expected to be complete in the fall of 2023. Mathiowetz Construction Company is the prime contractor on the $69.7 million project.

Oversize farm vehicles and equipment are not allowed on Hwy 52 beginning one mile north of County 1 Blvd. to 415th St. due to the head-to-head traffic configuration. Farm vehicles requiring access to land along Hwy 52 should seek an alternate route. If an alternate route is not available, please contact MnDOT.

Motorists may encounter lane closures or lane shifts, uneven road surfaces, equipment and other unexpected obstacles when driving near or through work zones. MnDOT advises motorists to:

  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Go hands-free and minimize other distractions (e.g., don’t eat or drink while driving).
  • Follow posted speed limits; the fine for speeding in a work zone is $300.
  • Avoid making lane changes within work zones.
