Interstate 494/Wakota Bridge lane and ramp closures in South St. Paul and Newport begin June 6
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists will encounter lane and ramp closures on the Interstate 494, Wakota Bridge spanning the Mississippi River, as crews begin a bridge resurfacing project on June 6.
Beginning at 6 a.m., Monday, June 6 through the morning of June 28, eastbound I-494 will be reduced to two lanes between Hardman Avenue in South St Paul and Maxwell Avenue in Newport.
Also beginning the morning of Monday, June 6 the following ramps will be closed and detoured:
- Hardman Avenue ramp to eastbound I-494 - Detour is Concord Street to eastbound I-494
- Eastbound I-494 ramp to Maxwell Avenue - Detour is northbound Highway 61 to Maxwell Avenue
All ramps are expected to reopen by the morning of Thursday, June 16.
Immediately following the opening of the eastbound I-494 lanes on Tuesday, June 28, crews anticipate closing two lanes on westbound I-494 to continue their work.
To accelerate the road work and lessen traffic impacts, crews are scheduled to work day and night shifts starting Monday, June 6 continuing through Wednesday, July 27 including some Saturdays to complete the project.
