Pedestrian demonstration project installed along London Road in Duluth
Duluth, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation has installed a temporary pedestrian demonstration project at the intersections of 36th Avenue East and 60th Avenue East along London Road in Duluth.
Pedestrian enhancements include center refuge islands for pedestrians trying to cross the road, curb bump-outs to slow traffic and give pedestrians a shorter distance to cross in traffic and additional pedestrian crossing signs. These temporary enhancements show what permanent improvements could look like. MnDOT is conducting a study along the entire London Road/Hwy 61 corridor from 26th Avenue East to Lester River, with a project planned in 2025.
The temporary enhancements will stay in place until October and be removed for the winter season. If successful, they will be installed each summer until permanent enhancements can be constructed with the 2025 project.
More information on the pedestrian demonstration project can be found on the project webpage at mndot.gov/d1/projects/londonroad/demo_project.
