Four-way stop set up at damaged I-35-Hwy 60 traffic signal in Faribault
FARIBAULT, Minn. – Motorists at Interstate 35 and Hwy 60 in Faribault should be alert for a four-way stop set up at the intersection after an oversized vehicle damaged a traffic signal on Thursday evening, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
An oversized vehicle damaged the power lines and a traffic signal pole at the intersection Thursday evening. The signals are not operating, but crews have set up stop signs at the four roads that connect. Motorists will also be warned in advance with digital message signs that the intersection is regulated by stop signs, so each driver must first stop and then proceed when it’s their turn and it’s clear to enter the intersection.
Replacement of the signal pole may not occur until next week. MnDOT will announce when the intersection’s traffic signals are operational again.
Safety
Motorists may encounter lane closures or lane shifts, uneven road surfaces, equipment and other unexpected obstacles when driving near or through work zones. MnDOT advises motorists to:
- Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
- Go hands-free and minimize other distractions (e.g., don’t eat or drink while driving).
- Follow posted speed limits; the fine for speeding in a work zone is $300.
- Avoid making lane changes within work zones.
