Hwy 52 southbound bridge at Hwy 60 east reopens to traffic

ZUMBROTA, Minn. – The Highway 52 southbound bridge at Highway 60 east has reopened to traffic, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The new bridge south of Zumbrota replaces a previous bridge. The on-ramp for traffic traveling westbound on Highway 60 to southbound Highway 52 is also open. The northbound bridge was replaced in 2021.

Motorists will encounter single-lane traffic along this stretch for several weeks while crews work to remove crossover lanes in the median that were used during the bridge construction.

A separate construction project on Highway 60 east reopened the highway to traffic between Highway 52 and Highway 63 at Zumbro Falls. This opened Sept. 2 and is accessible from Highway 52.

Project information

MnDOT’s construction project along Hwy 52 between Zumbrota and Cannon Falls began July 5, 2021. Year two of construction began April 21, 2022. The project is expected to be completed in 2023. To learn more, visit MnDOT’s construction project website.

Motorists may encounter lane closures or lane shifts, uneven road surfaces, equipment and other unexpected obstacles when driving near or through work zones. MnDOT advises motorists to:

  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times
  • Go hands-free and minimize other distractions (e.g., don’t eat or drink while driving)
  • Follow posted speed limits; the fine for speeding in a work zone is $300
  • Avoid making lane changes within work zones
