Highway 55 bridge between Kimball and South Haven closes June 2
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Highway 55 will close and detour between Kimball and South Haven for two months starting June 2 while crews update the Clearwater River bridge in Stearns and Wright counties, announces the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The $860,000 project will resurface the concrete bridge deck, replace the approach panels and joints, and upgrade bridge railing and steel barrier approaches.
What to expect:
- Highway 55 will be closed at the Clearwater River bridge.
- Detour uses Stearns County Road 44 in Kimball, Stearns County Road 7 in Fairhaven to Wright County Road 2 in South Haven. (See Figure 1)
- A temporary all-way stop at County Road 44 and County Road 7 in Fairhaven.
- Highway 55 will remain open to local traffic east and west of the bridge closure.
Motorists should watch for workers and equipment in the area.
When the bridge reopens in early August, it will provide a smoother surface, reduced upkeep costs and improved safety.
