Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Grant

The US DOT has released a Notice of Funding Opportunity for the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) federal discretionary grant.

CFI is a new competitive federal grant program to deploy publicly accessible electric vehicle charging and alternative fueling infrastructure in the places people live and work. The CFI program will make modern and sustainable infrastructure accessible to all drivers of electric, hydrogen, propane and natural gas vehicles. The program contains two funding categories:

  1. Community Charging and Fueling Grants (Community Program)
    Communities with an emphasis on neighborhoods where there are not a lot of single family homes with off-street parking
  2. Alternative Fuel Corridor Grants (Corridor Program)
    Spent along the designated Alternative Fuel Corridor System (1 mile from corridor for EV chargers and 5 miles for alternative fueling facilities)

The program is open to:

  • States or political subdivision of states
  • Metropolitan planning organizations
  • Unit of local governments
  • Special purpose districts or public authorities with a transportation function, including port authorities
  • Indian tribes
  • U.S. territories
  • Authorities, agencies, or instrumentalities or entities owned by, one or more entities listed above
  • Group of entities listed above
  • State or local authorities with ownership of publicly accessible transportation facilities (applies to community program only)
