STATUTORY_ROUTE
Abstract:
Statutory routes grant MnDOT the authority to own and operate highways. Statutory routes are composed of constitutional and legislative routes. Constitutional routes are defined as part of the Babcock Amendment to the Minnesota State Constitution in 1920, and cannot be severely altered or removed. Legislative routes are defined by the Minnesota State Legislature in statute.
The constitutional routes are numbered 1 to 70, legislative routes are those numbered greater than 70. The statutory route number does not necessarily coincide with the signed route number.
Purpose:
Statutory route was developed to fill a need at MnDOT for a continuous, statewide GIS base map of Statutory route throughout the State.

Location accuracy for features derived from USGS 7.5-minute quadrangles cannot be assumed to exceed National Map Accuracy Standards for 1:24,000 scale maps (+/- 40 feet or 12 meters). Accuracy of updates based on imagery is dependent on the resolution of the imagery used. Imagery used for updates would represent the best imagery available at the time of the update.
