Hwy 53 and Garfield Avenue connections to open Friday, Oct. 24

DULUTH, Minn. –The Minnesota Department of Transportation announces ramp connections for Hwy 53 to/from I-35/I-535 are set to open in the early morning hours of Friday, Oct. 24, in Duluth. Also opening are the connecting ramps between Garfield Avenue and the I-535 Blatnik Bridge. This marks the end of major construction on the Twin Ports Interchange, with some landscaping and cleanup scheduled for 2026.

Closed since 2021, the new infrastructure includes safety and traffic flow improvements and will better accommodate heavy freight movement throughout the Twin Ports.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution when navigating new movements, obey posted speed limits, and drive undistracted.
