MnDOT’s Keith Johnson retires after 40 years of public service
BEMIDJI, Minn. –Keith Johnson will retire from the Minnesota Department of Transportation on July 8, 2026, after 40 years of dedicated state service.
Johnson began his MnDOT career in February 1986 with the Hallock maintenance team. In 2015, he transitioned to the Thief River Falls construction office, where he served until 2019. He then stepped into his current role as TOS2 for maintenance in the northwest subarea.
Among his many memories at MnDOT, Johnson often reflects on the relentless winter storms of 1995–1996 and 1996–1997, which were followed by devastating floods across the region.
Johnson says he will miss the opportunity to serve the public and make a meaningful difference, as well as the many wonderful people he has worked with over the years. He looks forward to spending more time with family, tackling projects at home, and giving back through volunteer work.
MnDOT extends its sincere appreciation to Keith for his remarkable 40 years of service and dedication to the people of Minnesota.
