In preparation for a future reconstruction project along Interstate 94 , MnDOT has initiated a corridor study to determine short and long-term improvements between Hwy 336 and the Red River Bridge. This corridor study will identify feasible and fiscally responsible solutions for replacing aging pavement and meeting capacity needs along I-94. Study goals:
Create a long-term vision for improving transportation with consideration of social, economic, and environmental concerns.
Create transparency, build community trust, and ensure collaboration.
Develop recommendations that stakeholders and the public can support.
Phase One Engagement Summary
The first phase of engagement was focused on investigating and listening to the public on their perception on the corridor. The following is a summary of what we heard from the various engagement opportunities. In the survey respondents were asked about what they would change and their concerns, the most common themes were:
Adding lanes, specifically a third in each direction would reduce congestion.
On and Off Ramp improvements at 20th Street and Highway 336 would increase safety and allow smoother traffic flow.
Relocating the rest area could be beneficial for the community.
Roadway maintenance was a concern based on observed winter driving conditions.
